' Another Scorcher '     8:03pm   2006-07-31

We're starting in on another hot week here at camp. Despite the weather, the kids are having tons of fun. Cabins are out right now playing an exciting game of Safari -- hunting for CITs and Volunteens.

We had our Sunday night campfire last night and sang tons of fun songs, roasted marshmellows and Flags and I told the ever popular Puprle Stew story.

Ottowa won clean cabin this morning. Cassie Roberts received the I'm Third Award today for being such a willing, gracious volunteen. As campers brought up dishes after lunch, she thanked each one of them as they stacked them in the window for her to wash. Great job Cassie! Corral was our winner for Crazy Lunch, check out the pictures from that over in the photos section. Keep checking back for more updates and pictures throughout the week.

We're drinking tons of water and trying to stay cool this week. We're definitely having an awesome week so far!

' GREAT WEEK AT CAMP! '     4:22pm   2006-07-28

This week just flew by for those of us at camp. We had an all camp campfire, game of Muck Man, Camp Dance, Carnival, and of course the most popular is Tribe. Then of course cabins had a variety of activities including fun at the tower, archery, putt putt, disc golf, and low ropes. We keep points for each cabin throughout the week for showing up at activities on time, having the most tickets at the carnival, clean cabin, winners of Muck Man, etc. Our winners this week took it away by a landslide...Eagles Nest!! We also had three I'm Third Winners this week. This is putting God first, others second, and yourself third. Our winners this week include Ryan Brumley, Brittani Behrle, and Tiffany Conway. We also had a group of girls from Eagles Nest that cleaned up our overnight camp site on the very first night of camp without anyone even asking!! It is so great to see campers have such great work ethics. Our closing ceremony is soon and this group will be leaving for the summer. We have enjoyed having them here and look forward to their return next year!

' Winners at Camp '     6:19am   2006-07-20

Even in the heat campers have managed to dress up for crazy lunch day! On Monday the winning cabin was Seminole. The boys dressed up, we believe as mid-evil characters...possibly knights. Then on Wednesday Kickapoo took it away by dressing as Indian princesses. Clean cabin this week was won by Apache on Monday and then the Seminole boys on Tuesday and Wednesday. Who knew boys could be so clean? Our I'm Third winners so far this week were,
Mon: Kyle Sanders for taking the mop away from McBeal to mop the girls bathroom in the rec hall and for helping Blue out at the tower instead of doing a fun group activity.
Tues: Maddie Hoskins for loaning her crocs to another camper who had blisters on her feet and didn't have a comfy pair of shoes to wear.
Wed: Kirsten Bureman for letting another camper be the grinch at the carnival even though she had already asked to do it.
We still have to count carnival tickets from last night to see which cabin had the most customers and two more days of clean cabin and I'm Third awards to give out. We are really proud of our campers efforts to be the best they can at all they do!

' SURVIVING THE HEAT '     6:53am   2006-07-18

It is a hot one at camp this week, but we are surviving! Campers even managed to roast marshmallows to make smores at Sunday night's camp fire. Monday night we played a great game of Muck Man with Kickapoo winning by a landslide of 1100 points!! The dance was held at Sand Volleyball in honor of our theme Beach Bash and it seemed as if great fun was had by all. Our Outback campers headed out to Niangua to camp out and they will be floating all day Tuesday. At camp Tuesday we are adding extra swim time to help beat the heat. As always we are pushing the water...you can never get enough when it is this hot outside. Stay tuned and we will keep you posted on the fun activities coming up this week.

' Time Flies '     4:51pm   2006-07-12

It's been an exciting week so far here at camp. Monday nights dance was a huge success, it seemed like all the kids had a really good time.

Last night cabins did their own activities. Kickapoo had a slumber party complete with popcorn and probably lots of giggling. Apache and Ottowa had their campout last night and cooked hotdogs and smores over the campfire. They braved the rain and made it through the night reasonably dry from what I hear. Some of the boys and the LIT girls spent time at the tower.

Our days have been packed with activities -- archery, swimming, crafts, hikes, tower time, and so much more. Tonight we're getting ready for the carnival. Sno Kones, a dunk tank, a pinata... I can't wait! It's going to be awesome.

Taste of Wakonda goes home in just a little while. We really enjoyed having them here this week. Our youngest campers always contribute something extra special to the week.

We hope everyone at home is having a good week and staying cool. Remember, just like we tellt he kids, drink plenty of water when it's this hot.

' Rain '     11:14am   2006-07-10

Well we had kind of a damp start this morning. It didn't faze the kids at all, there was a brief pause in activities during a small downpour before kids headed right back out to continue their fun.

It's only Monday but it's already shaping up to be a great week. This is our largest week of Y camp so far with 99 kids. It's always awesome to have lots of new faces and several old ones too.

Last night we had our campfire where we sang lots of fun camp songs and told a few stories. Don't forget about the ever popular smores too which were assembled by our volunteens.

Tonight is our camp dance and I know the kids are looking forward to it. I hear rumors of a limbo contest. It should be a fun time.

We got cabing pictures up for everyone to see and will be posting more pictures in the upcoming days. Enjoy!
